GILLBY FIELD NOTES / 01
Standalone learning tool · built with the Gillby API

Tide prediction vs. reality

Does the water follow the prediction exactly? Compare stored NOAA tide predictions with observations at the same gauge. Calculate the difference without mixing stations or filling gaps.

Free to explore. No account needed. A public demonstration separate from Gillby’s signed-in planning app.

THE INTERACTIVE FIELD LABPUBLIC API · NO ACCOUNT

Make a discovery.

Past 48 hours. Same gauge, feet MLLW. Only exact timestamp matches are compared.

THE GAUGE BEHIND THE RECORDGEOGRAPHIC CONTEXT

Drawing the coastline…

NOAA gauge coordinates; the record belongs to this station, not every nearby inlet.
Location coordinates & source

Lake Worth Pier · NOAA 8722670 · 26.61278, -80.03416

Source: NOAA CO-OPS station metadata (WGS84), reviewed October 19, 2026.

Choose your inputs, then run a public API request. No sample values are preloaded.

What did you notice?

  1. Where are the observations above or below the prediction? Read the exact values in the table.
  2. How many timestamps could not be paired? Would using a different gauge answer the same question?
  3. What evidence would you need to investigate wind or pressure as a possible cause?

How this was built

This standalone demonstration calls Gillby’s public HTTP API directly from your browser, then compares the returned values here. It uses the same public endpoints available to other builders. It does not call MCP behind the scenes.

See API requests, source metadata & raw responses

Run the experiment to see the exact requests, time window and unmodified responses.

Repeat it with MCP

Connect a compatible assistant to https://www.gillby.com/mcp, then use this prompt. The assistant should verify tool inputs and retain source limitations.

Use Gillby get_history for the past 48 hours: source=forecast:coops_pred, var=tide_pred_ft, spot=coops:8722670; and source=coops:8722670, var=water_level_ft. Use identical from/to timestamps and maxPoints=1000. Pair exact timestamps only. Both series must be feet MLLW at this same station. Calculate observed minus predicted. Report valid counts, quality, truncation, source times and gaps. Do not substitute another station or interpolate.
