Gillby / California explorer beta

A new coast.
Your next surf session.

California is open in Gillby’s web map. Start with surf, explore lakes and rivers, and switch between California and Florida from the map. New account setup lets you choose your starting state, remembered on this device.

What you can explore

  • 98 sourced surf-location listings, searchable and selectable on the map.
  • 8 configured surf forecast locations with an experimental Gillby Surf Score, offshore swell, wind, nearby NOAA tide predictions and buoy observations.
  • Eight coastal camera sources, including El Porto, Venice Beach Pier and Pacifica. Some play on provider sites or require a subscription. Camera coverage varies by coast.
  • California lake weather and source-reported gauge readings, plus river flow and stage where available.
  • Licensed, dated fishing observations for California halibut, kelp bass, Pacific yellowtail and lingcod, with species filters and a separate California heatmap. Historical observations are not current fish locations or catch predictions.
  • Dated coastal station, access, port, boating-facility and protected-area records.

Read the coast with the sources

Offshore swell is not breaking-wave height. The 98 new listings are not all forecast-enabled and may overlap configured forecast locations. Historical GIS names, community-map positions, amenities and access need confirmation. Each view retains source links, timestamps and unavailable readings.

California does not yet include continuous beach-closure monitoring, validated break-level surf ratings, or the full Florida navigation and lightning integration. Check current official advisories before heading out.

For your app or AI assistant

Ten California API endpoints and MCP tools cover spots, surf outlooks, lakes, rivers, coastal places, facilities, protected areas and coverage. Public data reads need no Gillby account; personal account tools require sign-in and consent.

The web map requires a Gillby account. California is a limited explorer beta; features and source coverage differ from Florida.
